Any individual, firm, association, institution, or a body corporate, having a place of business in India, who owns/controls sound recordings and has the rights to communicate the same to the public by way of public performance and broadcast can become a member.

PPL provides a solution where granting individual licenses is impracticable or challenging. It acts as a policy bridge between a music label (rightsholder) and the users of music.

1. A strong and dedicated licensing team pan India with an extensive coverage of users who pay license fees for your sound recordings.

2. A well-defined tariff structure, which ensures users pay fairly for the usage of your sound recordings.

3. Better bargaining capacity to reach out to users, which individually may be impracticable, challenging and expensive.

4. Ability to monetize your local content being used internationally. PPL enters into reciprocal arrangements with other countries and helps with an option to monetize your content being used internationally.

The data PPL receives from its members plays a crucial role in paying out royalties. PPL makes payments to members based on the usage of their recorded music by PPL’s licensees (and subject to a set of Distribution Rules) so, whilst it is important to ensure we have your repertoire data, your ability to earn PPL royalties will also depend on the extent to which your recordings are being used. Usages of your recordings are determined through reports made available to PPL by licensed users and digital platforms.
